We recommend servicing your system at least once a year--ideally in the Spring for your AC and in the fall for your heating system. Regular maintenance helps improve efficiency, extend system life, and prevent unexpeted breakdowns.

The right size depends on several factors including your home's square footage, insulation, windows, and layout. Our team performs a detailed evaluation to ensure your system is sized for maximum comfort and efficiency.

If you have a frozen compressor or condensor/evap coil, it could be one of three things:

1. No/low air flow (dirty filters, an obstruction in airflow, etc.).

2. Low/no refrigerant (a leak or system is undercharged).

3. Low ambient air (it's too cool outside to run a/c efficiently).

The $5,000 rule in HVAC is a quick formula used to decide between repairing an aging system and replacing it entirely. You multiply the age of your system (in years) by the estimated cost of the repair. If the result is over $5,000, replacement is generally recommended. 

Real-World Examples

• Scenario A: Your AC is 12 years old and needs a $400 repair.

  • 12 × 400 = 4,800. Since it is under $5,000, a repair is the better short-term investment. 

• Scenario B: Your AC is 12 years old and needs a $600 repair.

  • 12 × 600 = 7,200. Since it is over $5,000, replacing the system is likely the smarter, long-term move. 

Important Caveats

While this rule is a helpful starting point, it shouldn't be your only tool. You should also factor in: 

• The "Half" Rule: If a repair costs more than 50% of the price of a brand new system, professionals usually recommend upgrading. 

• Energy Efficiency: Older units are much less efficient. Replacing an aging system with a modern model can significantly lower your energy bills and may qualify you for utility rebates or tax credits. 

• Repair History: A system that breaks down constantly might indicate it's on its last legs, even if a single repair falls below the $5,000 limit
